I'm not going to lie: I hate fall and winter. I don't do cold. I'm like a chihuahua; I'm shivering all the time. Layers are always weighing down. During the cold months I don't put as much effort into my outfits, because it's just too cold to be cute. Outfits usually consist of cardigans, leggings, sweaters, and puffy coats (footwear game remains on point, however). As much as I want to wear a cute skirt or dress, tights underneath feels uncomfortable and it is never warm enough. However, I wanted to invest in nicer-looking coats this year, so I at least look a little put together.
During the after-Christmas sales, I was on the hunt for winter-proof outerwear, specifically, a nice wool coat I could wear during cold nights out as well as during the daytime when I want to look a little dressier. I manage to get my hands on two J.Crew coats at discounted prices from the factory site.
I came across J.Crew Factory's 40% off clearance sale. Among the clearance items was the Factory Uptown Dress Coat. The additional 40% sale is over now, however it is still discounted at $113.99 right now! It comes in petites sizes, which are quickly dwindling in supply.
I bought mine in a petite 00 for $68.39 after the 40% off. It fits true to size. It hits mid-thigh as a promised. My about me page mentions my measurements for sizing reference. I'm going to wear this one for dressier occasions. In the following images you can see how it falls on me. This one, I'd wear over dresses and skirted outfits. The coat has a gold zipper and a three buttons closure. It has a pleated standing collar, pockets, and cinched-in detail at the waist.
I got this coat also in a petite 00 for $136.50. I've been looking for a nice gray cocoon coat for this winter weather. This one is a winner. Perfect length. The sleeves are not too long. It's a boxy fit which is what I'm looking for. This one hits below the hip, so it covers up to two inches below my butt. This cocoon coat has a boxy fit. This one has also has a zipper closure, pockets, and a standing collar. I've been wearing this one consecutively these past few days to work. It's a nice casual coat that still looks neat and mature.
Side note: Forgive my short legs in these pictures. This is the result of placing the camera on a hill, thus creating an unflattering angle and slightly distorting my proportions. However, if you're petite, this is how the coat falls on me.
I hope you found this helpful!
